NIKITA, THE ROCK-CLIMBING
CENTER in the Crimea
In 3 km from Yalta there is a
settlement Nikita. Nikitskaya cleft is situated on right opposite side
of the highway from a building of a nature protection complex. This
nature sanctuary is an evident illustration of huge power of the terrestrial
forces changing the relief of landscape. As if they had been cleaved
with a huge sword, the rocks formed gloomy, cold gorge. Steep walls
in height of 25-30 meters hang above, with a forest growing along the
top edge of the gorge. 20-meter Nikitskaya cleft reaches from the east
the west almost on 200m. The empire of gloomy rocks is supplemented
with stone messes and taluses, deep cracks in the calcareous thickness
displaced on a hillside and there is a cold coming from it even in hot
summer days. These rocks are the original natural condenser and the
accumulator of moisture. All three exits from Nikitskaya cleft are blocked
up majestic pyramidal rocks. The steepness of the gorge involves rock-climbers,
and romantic picturesqueness of the rocks - artists and cinematographers.
Nikitskie rocks is the unique center of rock-climbing in Crimea. There
are 85 bolted routes graded from 4 up to 8с+ in Nikita.
