Russian Extreme Project History

The Outdoor Adventure named the Russian Extreme Project aims to lead worldwide unique actions and expeditions of obviously expressed extreme character with the purpose of development and popularization of extreme kinds of sports in Russia.

Author, leader and Project coordinator - Valery Rozov, master of sports in mountaineering, master of sports of the international class in parachute sport, two-times World champion on Skydiving.

1999:

November, 1999 Russian Extreme Project Team won World Parachuting Championship (Australia, Melbourne). Skysurfing Gold.

2000:

May, 2000 Expedition to Venezuela. Parachute jump from the highest in the world water falls "Angel Falls" (976 m).

June, 2000 Norway, western coast (Lissa-fjord). Jumps from fjords. Altitude difference of rocky walls 800 - 900 meters.

July 2000 Russian Parachuting Championship. Skysurfing Gold.

August, 2000 X-Games (the USA, San Francisco). Skysurfing Silver.

2001:

February, 2001 Switzerland. Shooting of 4 television programs for ORT-Channel ("Russian Extreme" broadcast): mountaineering, snowboarding, B.A.S.E.-jumping, wing suit flights in mountains.

March, 2001 Participation in International Moscow Adventure Cinema Festival "Vertical". Film "Russian Extreme Project" was acclaimed the winner and also received prizes for "the Best extreme project of the year" and for "the Best operator work in extreme conditions".

April, 2001 the Republic of South Africa, Capetown. Participation in TV company "Šepsi - Cola" ("Mountain Dew") countercommercial filming plotted on "Russian Extreme Project" expeditions documentary.

July, 2001 Spain, Granada. World Parachuting Championship (the Second World Airgames). Skysurfing Silver.

July, 2001 Switzerland. Wingsuit jump (the highest in Europe) from the most known and the most extended (almost 2000 m) Eiger - North Wall in the Alps. The exit point - 3250 m.

August, 2000 Malaysia International Championship of XTREME SKYDIVE, Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. BASE-jumping from Twin-Towers ("Petronas"), the highest world 451-m skyscraper.

September, 2001 Norway. Wingsuit jumping from Troll Wall, the one of the most complicated rocky wall in the world. Altitude difference (vertical and hanging in places) - 1600 m.

2002:

February, 2002 Mexico. For the first time Russian jumpers had a several parachute jumps under the ground - into "Sonato de las Golondrinas"- one of the deepest (350 m) vertical karstic cave discovered in the world.

April - June, 2002 Expedition to Baffin Island, Arctic Canada, in association with the team of "Big Walls-Russian way" project led by Alexander Odintsov was the first in the world to discover that area. After super difficult 16-day first ascent the wall of Big Sail peak (altitude difference 1300 meters, average steepness of 85-90 degrees) Valery Rozov made a wingsuit jump, practically right from under the top. "The Russian Extreme Project" is rightfully considered the founder of a new kind of extreme sport named "B.A.S.E. climbing".

September, 2002 Project development of a new telecasting studio and new television programme “My Crazy Friends”.

September, 2002 World Parachuting Cup (Austria, Vienna). Skysurfing Gold.

October, 2002 European Parachuting Championship (Spain, Empuriabravo). Skysurfing Gold.

December, 2002 Barbados Island. “My Crazy Friends” programme’s shooting. The plot was meeting Fedor Konyuhov after his single crossing Atlantic Ocean on a rowboat.

December, 2002 Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. B.A.S.E. jumps from the highest skyscraper in the world Twin Towers ("Petronas") of 451m altitude difference in the frameworks of World B.A.S.E. jumping Championship.

2003:

February, 2003 “My Crazy Friends” programme’s four editions shooting (France - Italy): B.A.S.E.-jumping, rope-jumping, ice-climbing, mountaineering. Wingsuit jumps out a helicopter above Petit Dru summit.

April, 2003 High-speed crossing of Atlantic Ocean on a maxi-catamaran called “Scarlet Sails” (It’s 31 m long, and its mast is 33 m high) together with Fedor Konyukhov.

April, 2003 Mt. Everest, Nepal. Documentary film "The Best gift for Queen" devoted to the 50th anniversary of Everest conquest. The film crew spent a week at Everest base camp and ascended Khumbu ice-fall.

May, 2003 Continuation of the film "The Best gift for Queen" shooting (London, England).

June, 2003 Moscow B.A.S.E. Īpen Ąir Festival. Final record B.A.S.E. jumps of 26 jumpers from Ostankinskaya television tower.

June-July, 2003 Expedition to Greenland. Extra 10-day climbing successful ascent on absolutely vertical and sometimes overhanging face of "Nalumasortoq" (2054m) peak with vertical gain 850 - 1000 meters, average steepness of 85-90 degrees. After the team summited Valery Rozov made a wingsuit B.A.S.E.-jump right from the top. The Russian team was new in the world to make climbing ascent in this area. The new Russian route was lead and the first B.A.S.E.-jump in Greenland was accomplished. Russian Extreme Project team found the whole non-jumped island! The new sport extreme direction B.A.S.E. climbing continues to develop and got its new world demonstration.

August, 2003 Russian Parachuting Championship (Stupino). Skysurfing Gold.

September, 2003 World Parachuting Championship (France, Gap). Skysurfing Gold.

September 2003 France, Grenoble area. B.A.S.E.-jumps in mountains, wingsuit B.A.S.E. -jumps, a parachute jump from the plane on one of French tops of the size like a football field, vertically breaking in all sides. We rigged our parachutes right on the top and then made B.A.S.E.-jumps into a valley.

2004

April, 2004 Kamchatka. Russian Extreme Project led a joint action with Russian Heli-Boarding Club and made wingsuit flights along volcanos at midget altitudes.

June - July, 2004 Karakorum, Pakistan, Expedition. The team made extra difficult 22-day ascent on Mt. Amin Brakk (5850m), West face with altitude difference of 1300 meters and average steepness of 80 degrees. It was an ascent of the highest category of difficulty in the area new to the Russian climbers. After the team summited Valery Rozov made a B.A.S.E. wingsuit jump from the summit ridge. The exit point - 5650 m. It was the next successful RAP expedition in style - B.A.S.E.-climbing

October, 2004 China. Shanghai. International BASE jumping show. Jumps from the highest skyscraper of China Jin Mao of 421 m (the fourth highest skyscraper in the world). The exit point - 340 m.
